Who should have it?
The following measurements are used to tell whether or not IDD is right for someone with chronic pain:
- More common treatments have failed to adequately relieve the pain and/or have caused unacceptable side effects
- There is a disease causing the pain
- Another operation is unlikely to relieve your pain and might make matters worse
- As chronic pain involves both your mind and body, there is no psychological reason, including serious drug dependence why IDD should not work
- No other medical problems exist that would prevent the operation
