Pain from nerves
Pain from nerves, or painful neuropathy, is severe chronic pain from damaged nerves. There are many causes including inflammation, alcohol abuse, chemicals, infections or an immune reaction. It may also be due to illnesses such as kidney disease or cancer. In about one-third of sufferers the exact cause of painful neuropathy is never known. Patients experience either pain, a burning sensation, weakness or numbness. These symptoms most often affect the hands or feet. Treatment is focused on the cause, if it is known.
